Thanksgiving for the Gift of a Child

If you are not ready yet to have your child baptised into the Christian faith, you may wish to consider a service where your child is officially ‘named’ and you seek God’s blessing on him/her. This is sometimes referred to as a ‘Dedication’ or a ‘Blessing’. It is especially for those who are not yet ready to make the undertakings of faith required for a Baptism or for those who are Christians but feel that the child should decide for himself when to be baptised. Some Christians, for example, feel strongly that Baptism should only be for those who can make their own mind up.

If you wish to enquire about a Thanksgiving for your child, please call the Parish Office. There will a preliminary visit to your home by one of the clergy to meet with both parents (or carers/guardians, as applicable). The aim is to find out your wishes and to answer any questions you may have and to explain the process.

We will invite parents/carers/guardians to attend a Saturday morning seminar (10.00am – 11.30am) together with others who are bringing their children for a Thanksgiving or Baptism. However, we do not insist that have to attend. This is an informal time where the Christian faith is explained and the undertakings to be made are run through. At the end of the day, it is up to you whether you want to go ahead, and our job is to help you understand what it is all about.

Please note that there is no fee payable for this service. Couples may wish to make a voluntary donation towards the mission of the church, although there is no obligation to do so.
